Our goal on your first visit is to get to know you and to make you feel welcome in our office. Whether or not you have previously been to a chiropractor, we will take the time to explain everything to you along the way.
The first thing you will do is fill out our new practice member paperwork. These three forms cover a wide range of information and allow Dr. Miller to get a sense of your lifestyle. Once the paperwork is completed, Erica will direct you to our consultation room. Once there, you will watch a 5-minute presentation about starting chiropractic care. This presentation will answer many questions you might have about chiropractic. During this time, Dr. Miller is reviewing your paperwork.
After the presentation, Dr. Miller will talk with you about the reason you consulted her, as well as other important parts of your health history. When the interview is completed, Dr. Miller will direct you to our examination room. Here, Dr. Miller will check your posture, assess your range of motion, palpate your spine and perform additional tests as needed. You will have your clothing on during the examination process, or a gown if Dr. Miller needs to assess the legs.
As soon as the examination is completed, Dr. Miller will take x-rays of your problem areas. Radiographs allow Dr. Miller to see what your spine looks like and this helps determine your best course of treatment. A gown must be worn during the taking of x-rays because street clothes usually have metal zippers and/or buttons; also underwire bras need to be removed. If exercise clothing is worn, Dr. Miller usually will not require a gown.
After you redress, you are all set to go. Dr. Miller needs time to review the examination findings and correlate them with the films. (There are certain instances where Dr. Miller will decide to perform an adjustment on that first visit, but it is up to her discretion). We will schedule you for a report visit where Dr. Miller will go over the results of the exam and x-rays with you and let you know if you are a chiropractic candidate. If so, she will discuss with you the frequency, length and costs of care at that time.
Plan on an hour to an hour-and-a-half for the first visit.
